MY BACKGROUND
I am a senior at the University of Central Florida majoring in Writing & Rhetoric with a minor in Technical Communication. I have a strong passion for technical writing and am interested in working in fields related to science, technology, engineering, aerospace, and defense.
As a dedicated self-learner who has developed proficient skills in writing, editing, research, and data assessment, I am able to adapt to new challenges and find creative ways to combat a variety of evolving problems.
Technical writing is characterized by clarity, conciseness, awareness, accessibility, and usability. It employs a strategic balance between words and white space that intends to get results. I enjoy the uniquely collaborative experience of technical writing because it inspires effective information design specific to the goal of building relationships with my audiences.
Skills & Expertise
WHAT I BRING TO THE TABLE
This slideshow is a pathway that illustrates the skills and expertise that I have gained throughout my college career. They are specific to the classes I have taken that pertain to my major, Writing and Rhetoric.
The metaphor I used for my map is blueprints. It works as a thematic representation of both my academic journey and future career goals. Blueprints are a detailed, visual representation of how something is intended to work. They specify the dimensions, materials, and exact placement of components to aid in visualizing the final product. Blueprints are common tools used within the fields I am interested in working.
Within my map, I have designated a symbol for each expertise that appears throughout. The categories are: rhetorical and critical thinking skills; cultural competence and inquiry; professionalism, collaboration, and interpersonal skills; leadership and initiative; and effective writing, editing, and research skills. Each expertise has a related icon that appears alongside each class to indicate the development or reinforcement of that expertise. I chose these skills and qualities based on what I have learned in my classes and through opportunities outside of the university, as well as what I feel will benefit me in my future career.
